Siege gunman shot dead after policeman's killing in Queensland

A man who killed a policeman before holding authorities at bay for 18 hours has been shot dead in Australia.


On Monday, Rick Maddison lethally shot Senior Constable Brett Forte after the cop caught his auto in Queensland. 

He fled to a close-by farmhouse and spent the night in a remain off with police. 

Maddison was executed by experts in the wake of escaping the house and terminating on police, Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Tony Wright said. 

"He has been tested by police by then - he has let go at those police," he told correspondents on Tuesday. 

"Pro police have returned fire. The male individual has been shot and that male individual has been pronounced perished at the scene." 

Mr Forte was killed in the wake of capturing Maddison, who police had portrayed as a "needed individual", around 14:20 nearby time (04:20 GMT) on Monday. 

Long arrangement 

Specialists had set up an avoidance zone around the ranch and started consulting with Maddison at midnight. 

The encounter happened soon after 11:00. 

On Monday, Queensland Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said he needed to determine the attack "as calmly as humanly conceivable". 

Inhabitants adjacent occupants were requested to clear their homes on Monday evening. 

Tributes for casualty 

Mr Forte was a spouse and father who had been a cop for over 15 years, experts said. 

"It is so upsetting - not simply to the police benefit - but rather to the group, that we have lost a fine cop," Mr Stewart said. 

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said the officer was shot "just attempting to capture a needed individual". 

"It could have been any of us anyplace in Australia," he told the Seven Network. 


"Our musings are with his significant other and his three kids. He has a little girl and two children."
